It has been said that 'Bad habits are like a comfortable bed; easy to get into and hard to get out of'. Well, that certainly rings true for me today.
I knew that 40 days of waking up at 5am would not be easy and I expected there would be some days that I would simply fail. Today was the first such day. I didn't actually get out of bed until a little after 7am.
Part of my problem was that I was going on two consecutive days of waking up at 5am and had only had about 4-6 hours of sleep per night. Last night I didn't fall asleep until after 11:30pm and then my six year old daughter woke me up at 3:30am for something and it took me a little while to fall back asleep again.
When my alarm went off at 5am, instead of getting out of bed and forcing myself to get moving, I rolled over, turned it off and chose to get more sleep. I'm glad I did, because my body really needed the rest, but I am disappointed with the fail. I am still committed to my goal of 40 days to install a new habit. I know I need to get to bed earlier the night before in order to be as well rested as possible when 5am rolls around.
There are other things I can do which will help me to sleep better or to require less sleep overall. Not eating after 8pm helps the digestive system to be calmed down by bedtime so that the body can rest better. Exercising and getting fit leads to the need for less sleep over time. Drinking more water is also important for overall health, energy and circulation.
With all that said, I'm chalking this day up for good learning and am re-setting my alarm again tonight for 5am tomorrow morning!

I like that.
