Prophetic words from 158 years ago…

I just read the last chapter in the book “Lessons From Great Lives” by Sterling W. Sill and wanted to share one interesting quote with anyone who may have an interest in the future of The United States of America.

In 1852 Daniel Webster, one of the greatest Americans that ever lived, said, while speaking before the New York Historical Society about the eternal principles on which our national greatness depends:

“If we and our posterity shall be true to the Christian religion, if we and they shall live always in the fear of God and keep His commandments, we may have the highest hopes for the future fortunes of our country. It will have no decline and fall, but it will go on prospering and to prosper.
“But if we or our posterity reject religious instructions and authority, violate the rules of morality, and recklessly destroy the political constitution which holds us together, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us, that shall bury all of our glory in profound obscurity.
“Should that catastrophe happen, let the horrible narrative never be written. Let its fate be that of the lost books of Livy, which no human eye shall ever read, or the missing Pleiad of which no man can ever know more than that it is lost and lost forever.”

I hope that this is not ultimately the case, but unless Americans choose to properly educate themselves with the wisdom of the ages instead of entertain themselves with the endless media drivel of our age, this prophecy must surely come to pass.

The Joys of Moving

Posted in 2010 on June 30th, 2010 by Munro – Comments Off

Well, tomorrow is the big day of our move from Pleasant Grove to Provo. I thought I’d post a few pictures of our loaded up vehicles as a tribute to the joys of moving!

This is the local “Green Moving Co.” – They claim they have zero emissions from their moving services. Maybe so, but what is their life expectancy?

After helping us load up our trucks, all the brethren from the Elder’s Quorum thought it would be fun to ride on top of all our stuff!

These are just a few of the essentials that I decided to move myself.

I’m always surprised when people make such a big fuss about trying to get “trucks and trailers” when they move. It’s like they don’t even realize what cars can be used for! People are funny that way.

This was an interesting and well done news piece on members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly known as Mormons) and how their missionary experience may have played a role in their business success. Enjoy!

This video is awesome. I hope people take it to heart, unplug from the media insanity and cultivate good thinking and positive productive habits. (Lyrics below video) – Munro

Lyrics:
To be a survivor in this Amazing Race with the Need For Speed you need God’s Grace and if your Desperate like Housewives watching Days of Our Lives, you can’t cope without hope and that’s not on a soap. If you are looking to Oprah or Dr. Phil you can shop non-stop or pop a pill, but the void won’t fill and the pain won’t kill til you love the One that hung on the hill.

Kicking back in your Lazy-Boy easy chair watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, nah your not gonna find it there. No American Idol or Council Tribal has the final answer that will satisfy ya. C.S.I. ain’t got a clue; S.V.U. don’t know what to do. Not the ER or the OC, nothin’ on a CD, TV, DVD or MP3 can save you and me.

CNN has got no Good News. Here’s a headline: You Must Choose. It’s not a Simple Life Paris Hilton. It’s treading on thin ice living in sin. You can be an Apprentice for Donald Trump or eat Fear Factor fast food from a dump you can be a heavy hitter or Wheel of Fortune winner or a Fox News no spin spinner or flat sinner but you better check this life that your livin’ and make sure your sins are forgiven.

I bet cha 50 Cent Elvis done come and went, and eventually every Black-Eyed-Pea, Gwen Stefani, P-Diddy and Britney; every wanna-be on MTV with their Icy Bling; every Dixie Chick that sings, they all gonna see the King of Kings.

Bridal Veil Falls 10K

Posted in Races on June 12th, 2010 by Munro – Comments Off

It felt great to get out today and to run the Bridal Veil Falls 10K after more than a month away from running. This was my first race sporting my new Team Marathon gear and it felt great to get out with all of the other runners. There is something about getting up early, feeling the pre-race jitters and adrenaline, and being out in nature running…I just love it.

I figured running a 10K would be a great way to jump back into things and to get my Redrock Relay training back on track, and it was. I was able to set a new personal record finishing in 44:25, at a 7:10/mile pace. I placed 5th overall and 2nd place in my age group so that was cool!

There were actually multiple races going on in Provo at the same time: the Bridal Veil Falls 10-Miler, the Utah Valley Marathon and the Utah Valley Half Marathon. Provo Canyon and University Avenue were scattered with runners, all the way down to the Provo Towne Center Mall at the south end of the city.

The 10K route started above Bridal Veil Falls and continued down the Provo River Trail to the Riverwoods shopping center. It was a lot of fun and good to see a couple of friends running in it as well.

At the finish they had watermelon and pancakes. Good stuff. It was a smaller race, but got me excited about the other 10Ks I have coming up this summer:

- Freedom Run 10K on July 5
- Utah’s Toughest 10K on July 31

How to Live Before You Die, by Steve Jobs

Posted in General on May 26th, 2010 by Munro – 2 Comments

I highly recommend this excellent 15 minute commencement address given at Stanford University by college drop-out and founder of Apple and Pixar, Steve Jobs. It contains many gems of wisdom that all of us can benefit from in our own lives.

A few of my favorite excerpts:

“If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.”

“Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

“Follow your heart and intuition…they somehow already know what you want to become.”

Enjoy!

Training Log: My First 16 Miles

Posted in Fitness Training, Running, energy, goals, inspiration, mindset, personal development, visualization on February 27th, 2010 by Munro – 1 Comment

Today was my longest training run to date: 16 miles in 2:37 = 104 laps around the Pleasant Grove Recreation Center indoor track. Ugh, I’m feeling a little dizzy. Previous to this my longest run had been the 14 miler I ran last Saturday.

I wanted to run outside, but the air was a bit cold and I wasn’t prepared with the right gear. I’m determined to get some good outdoor training in soon though!

This entry will give a basic break-down of the pre-run meal, the run itself, post run meal + some bonus tips & tricks I’ve used in my training so far.

With the Salt Lake City Marathon a month and a half away (Apr. 17) I still have a lot of intense training ahead. I’m trying to be careful about not pushing too hard so that I can prevent any onset of injury.

Pre-run meal

I had one Eggo Waffle and 1 slice of bread, both with peanut butter and Miller’s Creamy Honey on it. I also had a 1.5 oz. shot of Activ Healthy Chocolate, a handful of grapes and half a banana. I intended to start my run one hour after eating, but didn’t end up getting out the door until two hours later. I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t have the fuel needed for the long run. My thanks go out to Runner’s World nutrition information: http://www.runnersworld.com/channel/0,,s6-242-0-0-0,00.html read more »

The project begins…

I’ve kept a journal since I received my first one as a gift for my 8th birthday. Ever since then I have enjoyed writing down my thoughts, feelings and experiences. The process has been therapeutic for me and has helped me to better understand myself as the years have passed.

The objective of this site is to provide a glimpse into my mind, my heart and my life experience. It is both personal and professional in nature and will cover varying topics that are of interest and importance to me.
